Models!

After attempting many, many, many (many) different combinations of scale bars, software, post-processing methods, algorithms, etc. I have finally found a method that has worked (so far!), over 2 different trails.

All the time and effort put into making the positioning correct (see previous blog post for details) has paid off.

Having accurate mapped positions for each of the photos means the next step, turning them into 3D models, is quite easy.

The trails are:

  1. Pipeline

  1. Axe Breaker

The next step is to add texturing, I have done an initial test of texturing, but there is stil more handling required to fix issues such as sunlight glare:

This is what I am working on currently.

Book

Inspired by the book of rust, I am writing a ‘book of dirtscan’, which will go into detail the exact method and details required for anyone to do their own 3D trail scans.

This still has a long way to go, given the process itself is not fully mature yet, but there is good progress being made regardless.
